History
Reiki (ray-key) is a natural healing technique that involves placing the hands over the body in various positions. It is thought to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago and was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist Monk in the Nineteenth Century. It was his purpose to find how Buddha healed the sick. During his 10 year quest he studied the sacred literature of Japan, China, India and Tibet. At the end of his quest the complete system of Reiki came to him during a mystical experience on the holy mountain of Kurtyama.
What is Reiki?
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. Rei means universal. Ki means energy. So together Reiki means universal energy.
What is a treatment like?
Reiki is given by laying-on of hands with the client fully clothed. A standard Reiki treatment includes placing the hands on the body in positions around the head, shoulders, stomach and feet. In addition, the practitioner may use other positions for specific conditions. The treatment lasts about 40 minutes. A treatment is deeply relaxing and includes many beneficial affects for both client and practitioner. Reiki works on the physical, mental and emotional level.
What can be treated?
Reiki is both powerful and gentle and its long history of use has aided in healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious problems like cancer and heart disease as well as skin problems, cuts, broken bones (make sure they are set before treatment), headaches, colds, sunburn, insect bites, insomnia, impotence, lack of confidence, etc.
Who can learn Reiki?
Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught. The ability to do Reiki is simply transferred to the student by the Reiki Master during an attunement process. Because of this, virtually anyone can learn Reiki with no prior experience or ability necessary. The attunement process opens up the crown, heart and palm chakras and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source. Then its use is explained, demonstrated and practiced. After that, all that is necessary is for the practitioner to place his or her hands on the client with the intention of healing and the Reiki energies automatically flow through the practitioner into the client. Because of this unique attunement process, Reiki can be easily taught in one class.
How does it work?
Reiki is an amazing energy that comes directly from the highest spiritual source. It has its own intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do. It is multi-dimensional and can assist in hte healing of a problem on whatever level it may exist - body, mind or spirit. It does not have to be directed by the practitioner. It is a very simple yet powerful process that can be learned by anyone. Because it is channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner's energies are never depleted. In fact, when giving a treatment, the Reiki practitioner is healed as well and always experiences an increase of life force energy. People that already do healing work report their healing energies increase after the Reiki training.
Is it a religion?
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. Reiki is compatible with all religious paths and faiths.
Many uses
Reiki is very versatile and can be used to heal or improve any human condition or difficulty. In addition to healing yourself and others it can also be used to protect from harm, help solve problems and achieve goals. The persons own inner wisdom directs how the Reiki will be used.
